THE MANDATE Episode 42: Welcome to MA’s

Warning: This episode is chock full of spoilers, including elements of the film’s conclusion. So if you haven’t seen the film yet and don’t want anything ruined for you, l would suggest coming back afterwards to see how our review lined up with yours.

Good day, Mandaters! We’re back already with another episode and this time around, I’m out with an old friend of mine, Tim Anderson. You might recognize his name and voice from his Ill Street News Podcast. I let Tim explain the details within the episode, but the short version is Tim and two of our other high school friends, Adam Schmidt and Mike Tornello, got together to create a podcast to cover all things hardcore and metal, but with that Delco twist. Seeing that I’ve already been on Ill Street three times, I figured it was time to get one of them on this show.

For this date, Tim and I went to check out the new Octavia Spencer driven thriller, Ma. The trailer presented a bit of a fatal attraction type flick with an older lady obsessed with her new, younger friends. Not willing to take rejection lightly, it appears she turns violent. After that, Tim and I were in the dark where this would go. In the pre-screening portion, we cover what directions we hope the movie would take and ones we desperately hoped it would avoid. Tim at one point makes the bold statement that most modern horror is terrible, but don’t worry, I interject. We make our predictions on how we’ll feel and away we go.

In the wrap-up, as always, we discuss what we liked and didn’t like. We had some movies to make some comparisons to and we even discuss the elements of the film we were really surprised with and didn’t expect from the trailer. Some more discussions about other modern horror follow, and then we make our mandate on how you should see the film. Thankfully, this one was easy and we both matched up on our decision. Obviously, I’m not going to spoil the results here, so you’ll have to click that play button to find out how we felt.

Once again, thank you for checking out another episode of The Mandate. Whether you came here because you are a fan of this podcast or you’ve visiting as a fan of Ill Street News, make sure you check out all the other great podcasts on Cinepunx. We have a little something for everyone. Then like, follow, comment, share, etc. Until the next time, get out and see a movie!

John Wren

I am John Wren; a Delco original, and thanks to a cartoon Chihuahua (surprisingly, not the small bird), most know me only by my last name. Although people think I it’s due to self-hatred, I do actually enjoy running in ridiculous races up and down mountains and have recently ventured into the world of triathlons. I used to sing for the Jersey based metalcore band Bottomfeeder (www.facebook.com/bottomfeederhxc) but am now bandless. I’m the worst Buddhist known to man and if I’m given the opportunity, I will ramble on about anything and everything at great lengths, with lots of profanity. I’ve read every Stephen King book, my favorite band of all time is White Zombie, and I will need to take a week of bereavement the day Bruce Campbell dies.
