In this episode of the Mandate, I sit down with longtime friend and show goer, Tony Corrado, to see Tom Cruise lead reboot of The Mummy. Two films with Brendan Fraiser and a half a dozen spinoffs, and direct to DVD sequels to those spinoffs, sent the franchise into financial and critical hell. Universal has decided to breath life back into the series by starting fresh. It’s also meant to serve as the jump off point for the new Dark Universe that will feature the likes of The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, as well as other unconfirmed Universal Monsters. The franchise clearly has some focus now, thanks to Marvel laying down the groundwork for all these new “universes”, but would that be enough to make a new Mummy film worth a damn?
