This Is Hardcore Fest – Sunday is NOT a Day of Rest

You ever watch zombie movies? Sure you do, you read Cinepunx! Sunday required attendees to dig deep for the last 16(!) bands. Outside, there were definitely more people sitting than standing. Three straight days of dancing will do that to you. I stupidly missed Strife (I also missed the secret show with them and Refused), but managed to find parking in time for a tofu meatball banh mi from Kung Fu Hoagies before Baltimore’s Ruiner went on. They were a lot of fun, even if the lead singer was kind of grumpy (chalk it up to having to go to

This Is Hardcore Fest – Saturday’s Warrior

Saturday was back to your regularly scheduled programming (more hardcore, less Satan), with locals Ten Ton Hammer leading off. The forecast called for rain, which held off, as did the firestorm to purify (although the heat was a pretty good proxy). What’s great about the music starting at noon is that the teenagers have a good chance of convincing mom and dad to drop them off for a few sets before getting picked up to go home and eat dinner. It is very important to start listening to hardcore at a young age (and in my case, not to stop

This Is Hardcore Fest – Friday, I’m in Love

(all photos by ANNE SPINA) Survived Thursday? Not terribly difficult, but a pat on the back nonetheless. Friday brought the fest to the Electric Factory, where it would ride out the next three days. There was still many, many bands yet to play at this point, along with merch to buy, food to eat, and causes to support. I spent the early part of the evening in the lot, decided what to eat and contemplating a haircut from Lucky’s Barbershop before heading back inside for Full of Hell, who were chock full of—you guessed it—hell. They put together a punishing

This Is Hardcore Fest – Round 1: Fight!

( Editor’s Note: Welcome to our first THIS IS HARDCORE FEST round up post! These are not comprehensive reviews of the fest, rather they are a documentation of one person’s experience of it. Fidel was a perfect choice for me to ask because he is someone older, who grew up with this music, but isn’t as involved anymore as me and Josh are. As TIHC fest grows, more and more of the audience are these returning core-men, and as such I value Fidel’s input very much. Importantly, all the photos in this piece and in all his pieces were taken

This Is Hardcore Fest – Fuel for the Positivity Game

So you decided to spend your summer vacation in the pit. Personally, there are few places I’d rather be. Everyone’s your best friend (even though they’re throwing punches at you and might even land one), you’re having a monster sing-along, and you’re getting a great workout to boot. The trouble with all those windmills, however, is that each one burns a few calories. Picking up change? More calories. Spin kicks? The most calories. Thankfully, This Is Hardcore Fest planned ahead and lined up an excellent roster of food trucks so you don’t have to wander too far away from the stage.

This Is Hardcore Fest – Wherever You Go, There You Hardcore

Hey there! Fidel Gastro here. Cinepunx was gracious enough to give me access to their blog in exchange for tickets and coverage of the annual installment of This Is Hardcore Fest. I would imagine most of you already know about the 4-day music festival in Philadelphia. And if you don’t know now? Well, you never did, or something like that. For myself, it’s been thirty-seven years and I’m still trying to figure out exactly where I fit in. A lot of that comes from the fact that I grew up as one of the only Mexicans in the whitest city in the United
